At present, the house is available only for short-term rental periods because we, the owners, use it as often as we can for our own enjoyment.
-
Woods fires are prohibited indoors, and only wax logs are permitted for burning indoors (no cooking in the fire, and/or burning of anything other than wax logs). (4) wax logs per booking are provided. Please use only one at a time; they will burn for approximately (3) hours. For additional wax logs, guests may contact us by 9:00pm to request the code to unlock the locked black bin in the garage. Additional wax logs are available at $5.00 per log on the honor system, payable by Venmo.
To use the fireplace, check that the flue damper is open by looking up into the chimney (we leave it open, and it should always be left open). Hold a flame for 20 seconds up the chimney to help start a draft. Use the fire screen, especially when leaving the room and at the end of the night.

Pets of any kind are not allowed at the house, excluding trained service dogs. Evidence of pets will results in a loss of your full deposit, and possible additional fees for cleaning services.
-
Smoking indoors is strictly prohibited. Our indoor smoking ban includes tobacco (cigarettes and cigars), cannabis, and e-cigarettes. If there is visible evidence and/or a smell, there will be a cleaning fee of $500.00. Smoking of any kind is permitted in the backyard, but away from the woods. If smoking outside, please dispose of materials properly and safely.

Parking in either of the garages is currently reserved for the home owners. There is substantial storage in the secure garage mudroom entrance for belongings and sports equipment. We provide shovels in winter.
-
You are welcome to bring ski/snowboard gear inside the garage mudroom for secure overnight storage. We have a gear rack that holds up to ten sets of skis and/or snowboards.
-
At your own risk, you are absolutely welcome to precariously sit (we have) – it’s more of a freezing shallow dunk than a swim. Roaring Brook is cold, full of quartzite boulders, and can be low based on rain and snowfall. It would be a chilly and bumpy sitting, but on a hot day, and with a surge of courage, may be worth it.
Please be respectful of the natural surroundings, and be very careful at the edge of the brook to protect the bank (and yourself, since some parts are just pine needles over the substantial root structures).

For summer swimming June-August, we prefer Elfin Lake nearby, which offers day passes for adults ($3.00) and people 2-17 years old ($1.50). Entrance is cash only, as is the little snack bar, and there’s a pleasant sandy beach and lawn. Access is free for children 2 and under. Kayak and grill rental is also available. In the greater area, there are lots of rivers and lakes to explore.
